Road Traffic Flow Theory and Operations
|
|
Traffic Flow theory and operations is concerned with understanding
vehicular traffic operations on variety of facilties like the expressway,
arterials, etc. as well as designing of these facilities in order to
provide mobility in an efficient, reliable and safe manner.
Topics include (but are not limited to) traffic operations; management and
control; traffic flow theory and modelling; operational effects of road
geometry, signals and signs; traffic simulation; traffic control and
management; design of traffic facilities like roadways, intersections,
toll-plazas, parking lots, etc.; transportation network analysis. |
Track - D |
Travel Behaviour and Demand Forecasting
|
|
Research on Travel Demand Forecasting and Travel Behaviour aims to obtain
a detailed
understanding of how much, where, how, when, and why people travel. This
research
can help transportation planners to more accurately estimate the demand
for travel,
evaluate infrastructures, and frame policies to encourage sustainable
transportation
solutions and meet the growing demand for travel.
Topics include (but are not limited to) travel demand management; spatial
analysis of travel patterns;
determinants of travel behaviour; activity-based travel demand models;
tour, stop and trip generation models; destination and mode choice for
developing countries; route choice and assignment for heterogeneous
traffic networks; valuation of travel time, cost and reliability; role of
subjective factors; endogeneity in travel choice dimensions; dynamics in
travel decisions;alternatives to utility maximization framework.

Track - E |
Pedestrian Flow Theory and Operations
|
|
Knowledge about pedestrian flow is necessary for the appropriate design
of transport infrastructures (airports, stations, trains, etc), safety
at large scale events (Haj in Mecca, Kumbh Mela, etc. ) or the
constructions of high occupancy buildings (stadiums, theaters, schools,etc.).
Topics include (but are not limited to) data collection; model development and
validation; standards for egress route design; evacuation; disaster
analysis; urban development; regional
evacuations; transport modeling; public transport transfer terminals;
behavioral aspects of pedestrian movements.

Intelligent Transportation Systems
|
|
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is an emerging area gaining
momentum with widespread development and deployment in many countries. The
benefits of ITS include enhancing efficiency of the transportation system,
improving mobility for both people and freight, reducing traffic
congestion, increasing traffic safety and reducing the environmental
impact of vehicles (by reducing fuel consumption and emissions) without
resorting to building new roadways, widening existing roads, etc.
Topics include (but are not limited to) ITS planning; automated data
collection; communication and archiving; modeling; traffic operations and
control; vehicle control; routing algorithms; user response;
tools/software for analysis of ITS and implementation and evaluation of
ITS applications. |
Track - G |
Transport Economics/Finance/Policy |
|
Topics include (but are not limited to) congestion and road pricing strategies;
innovative practices; public private partnership programs; user impacts of
multimodal transport projects; project evaluation; cost-benefit analysis;
performance measures and related resource management strategies; policy
analysis;
interaction with political, socioeconomic and physical environment. |
|
Track - H |
Transportation for Sustainable Development and Environment |
|
Transportation that promotes sustainable development and preserves the
environment has become increasingly important over the years. Sustainable
development should improve our standards of living without compromising
the quality of our lives, communities and natural environments.
Topics include (but are not limited to) sustainable transportation and land use,
energy, public health, safety, climate change, poverty eradication and
economic development; asset management; green design and construction;
storm water management; freight, infrastructure resilience; ecosystem and
land surface degradation; social equity; sustainability
planning and evaluation; green rating systems; case studies of best
practices; effective institutions and governance; and education.
